The North Sea coast of Northumberland and Berwickshire is a landscape of unspoilt sandy beaches, rugged cliffs, coastal castles and lively fishing settlements. Along this coast wild flowers grow in abundance on the sand dunes, wading birds comb the strand, and the dramatic ruins of coastal castles stand tall on the skyline. Inland the Cheviot Hills provide wild and windswept walking at its very best.
The Northumberland Coast is rich in history. Lindisfarne on Holy Island was one of the foremost ‘cradles of Christianity; there are mighty castles which date from mediaeval times at Dunstanburgh and Bamburgh; and in 1838 the mountainous seas off the nearby Farne Islands were the scene of Grace Darling’s heroic rescue of mariners in distress.
Guests on these tours will be able to enjoy several stretches of this wonderful coastline, the highlights being the beautiful villages of Craster, Low-Newton-by-the-Sea and Beadnell Bay; the rugged and dramatic cliffs of St Abbs Head and the dramatic views across the tidal sands to Lindisfarne. An exhilarating walk through the wild moorland and hill scenery of the Cheviots will add variety to the tour.
Unless you ask us to customise your trip, and choose alternative accommodation, your holiday on the Northumberland Coast will be based at a comfortable family-run guest house in the scenic village of Bamburgh. Your room will have ensuite bathroom facilities and you will have a choice of continental or full English breakfast. Bamburgh has several good hotels and pubs which serve meals in the evening.
If you prefer hotel accommodation we can arrange a room at the Victoria Hotel in Bamburgh. The hotel, which enjoys an unrivalled location beside the village green and close to Bamburgh Castle, offers a range of standard, superior and castle view rooms and the restaurant menu is interesting and varied. The additional cost for accommodation at the Victoria Hotel will depend upon the room type chosen.
