Hawes is home to the Wensleydale cheese and a world-famous rope manufacturers and the Tuesday market draws in both locals and visitors. Hawes has a number of inns and restaurants offering food in the evenings. It also has a number of shops where one can purchase the makings of a packed lunch.

The daily meeting point in Hawes is outside the National Park Visitor Centre.

How to reach Hawes by public transport, The nearest railway station to Hawes is Garsdale Head (six miles distant) on the Settle to Carlisle line. There are local buses (Harrogate & District "Little White Bus' service No. 855) from Garsdale to Hawes.

Although Garsdale is the nearest station it is not always the most convenient, particularly if there is any engineering work on the Settle to Carlisle line. Another station to consider is Northallerton (36 miles distant) as there is a regular bus service (Dales & District service No. 156/157) between Northallerton station and Hawes.

If you are completing more than one section of the Pennine Way the dates allow for a full day (the Saturday) to make the transfer from Hebden Bridge to Hawes and/or Hawes to Hexham. For the convenience of guests without their own means of conveyance, who would prefer not to use public transport, there will be a minibus transfer available at a cost of £30 per passenger, per transfer.
